Notes from a Sermon

In good days and bad days, say, "God, I want to be used by you."

It is possible to fake it really well as a Christian.  Look at Judas.

Josiah- no king like him again. He did not turn aside to the right or left. The key to a tender heart- when you hear the Word, do you want to do something about it? Josiah committed his life to obey.

We can't become something we're not becoming now.

Tackle tough choices, battle crippling sins, cultivate biblical awe.

Piper on Edwards

Pastor John Piper on Jonathan Edwards, "Edwards made it plain in his preaching and in in his living that he believed great thoughts about God without great love toward people are sure evidences of hypocrisy and the pathway to hell."

Pride

In an essay on undetected pride, Jonathan Edwards wrote, "The spiritually proud person shows it in his finding fault with other saints. . . . The eminently humble Christian has so much to do at home and sees so much evil in his own that he is not apt to be very busy with other hearts."

And, Edwards wrote, “Christians who are but fellow-worms ought at least to treat one another with as much humility and gentleness as Christ treats them.”
